This course is designed to help students consolidate and master the grammar skills learned throughout their elementary years. By building a solid grammatical foundation, students will be well-prepared for the more advanced writing and language expectations in later middle school and high school.
The primary textbook used is Easy Grammar 6, with focused grammar lessons taught during class time and reinforced through homework assignments. By the end of the year, students will be able to confidently identify all parts of a sentence, improving their overall understanding of sentence structure and grammar.
Writing instruction begins with a review of basic sentence and paragraph construction. Students complete bi-weekly compositions that allow them to practice the full writing process—from drafting to receiving detailed feedback from instructors—helping them gain confidence and skill in their written communication.
Vocabulary and spelling are integrated weekly through vocabulary charts, emphasizing the study of basic prefixes and suffixes. Students are encouraged to incorporate new vocabulary words into their writing, enhancing their language skills and expression.
Parents play a vital role by grading assignments that come with answer keys, including spelling, vocabulary charts, and grammar exercises. Teachers manage and record all grades, including those for compositions and exams, ensuring students receive consistent, expert evaluation throughout the semester.
