Physical Science – Home & Group Curriculum (Grades 7–8)
Physical Science is a middle school science course designed to prepare students for high school biology and beyond by exploring the fundamentals of earth science, chemistry, and physics through a biblical worldview. Recommended for students in grades 7 or 8 who have completed Pre-Algebra.
The Home & Group set includes the student workbook used in One Day Academy’s Physical Science class plus a leader guide for once-a-week group instruction. Students study assigned lessons and prepare at home, then participate in hands-on labs and lecture review during group class.
Course topics include:
- Scientific investigation and the scientific method
- States of matter and atomic structure
- Periodic table and chemical reactions
- Motion, forces, and energy
- Sound, light, electricity, and magnetism
- Earth science topics such as geology and meteorology
- Research and data analysis skills
Labs include PowerPoint lectures for pre-class study and in-class experiments emphasizing safety and proper technique. Students take notes in their supplement workbook and complete quizzes and exams, with module tests completed at home under parent supervision.
Parental responsibilities include monitoring home tests, supporting student preparation, and assisting with a required science project.
- This course is ideal for homeschool families and co-ops seeking a solid foundation in physical science with hands-on learning and a Christian worldview.
The goal of this class is to inspire students to pursue learning about God’s creation. Science Project Required A middle school course designed to be taken before Biology 1, usually 8th grade. Physical Science is an overview of earth science and basic chemistry and physics.
Content covered: basics of scientific investigation, states of matter, atomic structure, periodic table, chemical reactions, motion, forces, energy, sounds, light, electricity, magnetism, earth science, research and analysis. Safety protocol and best lab practices will be emphasized. Labs will include a PowerPoint lecture over material covered at home prior to class. Students perform hands-on experiments. Students will take notes in the course supplement and the instructor will determine quizzes and exams.
Module Tests are taken at home under parent supervision.
