Biology 1 – Grades 9–11
Biology 1 is a college-prep high school course designed to cultivate awe and appreciation for God’s creation through the study of living organisms. Typically taken alongside Algebra 1, this course provides a full high school science credit and prepares students for advanced biology coursework.
Students will explore key biological topics, including:
- Microscope skills and biological classification
- Biological kingdoms and the chemistry of life
- Cytology (cell structure), genetics, and DNA
- Ecology, botany, zoology, and animal biology
- Creation vs. evolution from a biblical perspective
Laboratory work is an essential part of the course. Students will complete hands-on experiments and may participate in dissections of specimens such as a clam, grasshopper, perch, earthworm, crayfish, frog, flowers, and a sheep eye, depending on the instructor.
Class sessions include PowerPoint lectures, note-taking in the course supplement, and active lab work. Quizzes and exams are assigned by the instructor. Module tests are completed at home with parent supervision. A science project is required.
Prerequisites: Physical Science and Pre-Algebra.
- Ideal for students ages 13–16, this course offers a solid foundation in biology while reinforcing a biblical worldview of life and creation.
