Chemistry 1 Home or Group Set
Chemistry 1 – Home & Group Curriculum (Grades 9–11)
This college-prep Chemistry course explores the structure and behavior of matter through a Christian lens, inspiring students to marvel at the order and precision of God’s design. Designed for students who have completed Algebra 1 and Biology, this rigorous science course earns one high school credit and prepares students for future university-level chemistry.
The Home & Group version includes the student materials used in One Day Academy’s Chemistry 1 course, plus a leader guide for once-a-week group instruction. Students complete assigned reading and prep work at home and come to class ready to engage in labs and lecture review.
Topics covered include:
- Writing and balancing chemical equations
- Atomic structure, ionic and covalent bonding
- Density, stoichiometry, and the factor-label method
- Thermodynamics, kinetics, gas laws
- Acid-base reactions, redox, and combustion
- Freezing point depression and solubility
Weekly instruction includes PowerPoint-supported lectures and hands-on lab experiments with a strong emphasis on lab safety and proper technique. Students take notes in their course supplement and complete assigned quizzes, module tests, and exams at home under parent supervision.
Parental responsibilities include overseeing home-based quizzes and tests, supporting students in pre-lab preparation, and assisting with weekly pacing and accountability. This course is ideal for homeschool co-ops, group classes, or families seeking structured, lab-based science education with a biblical worldview.
One high school credit
The goal of this course is to be amazed at God’s precision in creation of matter. This college-prep course requires that the student has completed Algebra 1 and will provide a rigorous foundation of principles that affect our daily life.
Content covered: writing and balancing chemical equations, density, factor/label method of units, ionic/covalent substances, types of reactions, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, solutions, solubility, acid-base reactions, atomic structures, combustion, freezing point depression, gas laws, and redox reactions.
Safety protocol and best lab practices will be emphasized. Labs will include a PowerPoint lecture over material covered at home prior to class. Students perform hands-on experiments. Students will take notes in the course supplement and the instructor will determine quizzes and exams. Module Tests are taken at home under parent supervision.
