Intro to High School English 1 – Home & Group Curriculum (Grades 8–10)
This 8-week summer English course is designed to bridge the gap between middle school and high school English. It’s ideal for students entering High School English 1 or for those new to One Day Academy who want to prepare for a more rigorous academic writing environment.
The Home and Group version includes the student workbook used in the One Day Academy course, along with a leader guide for weekly group instruction. As with all our Home and Group sets, the course is designed to be taught once a week in a co-op or small group, with students completing assignments at home under a parent’s supervision.
The curriculum focuses on three core areas: writing, grammar, and vocabulary. Students will strengthen key writing skills aligned with High School English 1, review five sentence structures using the first half of Jensen’s Punctuation (required separately), and reinforce roots, prefixes, and suffixes learned in earlier middle school courses.
This short course is a great fit for students transitioning into high school English, students new to One Day Academy, or anyone looking to reinforce essential language arts skills before the school year begins.
