MIDDLE SCHOOL English One Home and Group Set
Middle School English 1 – Home & Group Curriculum (Grades 5–6)
This course is ideal for students in upper elementary or early middle school (ages 10–12) who are ready to strengthen their grammar foundation and grow in writing confidence. Students develop essential language skills through structured grammar lessons, vocabulary building, and regular writing assignments.
The Home & Group version includes the student materials used in One Day Academy’s Middle School English 1 course, along with a leader guide to support once-a-week group instruction led by a parent or tutor. The rest of the coursework is completed independently at home with parental supervision.
Grammar is taught weekly in class using Easy Grammar Grade 6 and reinforced through homework. By year’s end, students will be able to identify all parts of a sentence. Writing instruction begins with sentence and paragraph structure and progresses to bi-weekly composition assignments with feedback from the teacher. Vocabulary and spelling focus on prefixes, suffixes, and usage in writing, with weekly charts to support mastery.
- Parental responsibilities include grading assignments that use an answer key (grammar, spelling, and vocabulary), recording scores on a grade sheet, and submitting them to the teacher or group leader. Teachers will grade compositions and tests and provide final grades at the end of the semester.
The purpose and goal of this class is focused grammar study, putting together all the pieces of grammar that a student has been learning through their elementary years. Students’ writing in later middle school and high school years will be strengthened by the development of strong grammatical skills. Students will also study vocabulary and grow in confidence through writing weekly.
