High School English One Online Course Supplement (Grades 9–10)
This course introduces high school students to a wide range of writing styles including narrative, descriptive, persuasive, informative, and creative writing, along with literary analysis techniques. Students build on foundational grammar and punctuation skills through daily practice and develop sentence variety and complexity via focused study of clauses and phrases.
Vocabulary instruction continues with an emphasis on roots and derivatives. Writing instruction is scaffolded to prepare students for essays and research papers, including MLA formatting and citation, culminating in a career research project and presentation.
- Parents play an essential role in establishing study routines, grading vocabulary and grammar assignments, and providing feedback on student writing before submission. Teachers grade all compositions, exams, and final projects.
