Middle School Literature – Home or Group Curriculum (Ages 12–14 / Grades 6–8)
This middle school literature course introduces students to classic works of fiction, fantasy, poetry, biography, and drama. Designed for students who are confident readers and able to write short essays or reading responses, this course develops critical thinking, reading comprehension, and biblical analysis through engaging stories and class discussions.
The Home & Group version includes a student workbook used in One Day Academy’s Middle School Literature course, plus a leader guide to support once-a-week group instruction led by a parent or tutor.
As with all our Home & Group sets, students meet weekly in a group setting and complete the rest of their reading and assignments at home under parental supervision. This format mirrors the One Day Academy model and offers families both structure and flexibility.
Students will explore the meaning and significance of each story through literary analysis, historical context, creative writing activities, and discussion questions that connect the works to modern life and biblical principles.
Parental responsibilities include purchasing the workbook and assigned reading titles (print editions preferred), helping students pace out their reading, and ensuring that assignments are completed and brought to class each week.

Leader Guide and Student Workbook
The Leader Guide is designed for use with the Middle School Literature Student Course
Workbook, as well as all the required reading books, and is suitable for one-on-one or small
group home instruction. The Leader’s Guide features a weekly overview, a lesson guide for each
of 34 weekly lessons, and information about the books and other readings that will be key to
completing the writing assignments and charts. The Leader Guide includes some of the student
materials, including the poems and short stories, writing assignments, and samples of the
charts to help parents with evaluating and grading student writing. Students take notes on the
lessons in the Course Workbook, which will aid them in completing the writing assignments and
charts, also found in the student coursebook.
