High School Astronomy (Grades 9–12)
This one-credit high school astronomy course invites students aged 14 to 18 to explore the vast splendor of God’s universe. Designed for students who have completed Algebra 1, the course combines scientific rigor with a biblical appreciation of creation.
Students will study a wide range of topics including the history and systems of the universe, interstellar space, matter and antimatter, dark matter, black holes, wormholes, astronomical measurement, the solar system, electromagnetic radiation, planets, orbital mechanics, our moon, telescopes, stars, constellations, galaxies, and celestial navigation.
The course includes hands-on laboratory experiments emphasizing safety and best practices. Each lab begins with a PowerPoint lecture covering material studied at home. Students take detailed notes and complete quizzes and exams as assigned by the instructor. There are no at-home tests included in the textbook materials.
With a strong STEM focus, students will complete a research presentation to deepen their understanding. Optional field trips and star parties may be offered at the instructor’s discretion, providing enriching real-world astronomy experiences.
