Wildlife & Aquatic Science – Home & Group Curriculum (Ages 12–17)
This hands-on science course is designed for students who enjoy learning through labs, outdoor activities, and real-world fieldwork. The curriculum is ideal for mature middle and high school students who are strong readers, capable of taking field notes, and familiar with basic data graphing. Topics cover aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, Texas wildlife and plant identification, and conservation science.
The Home & Group version includes the student workbook from One Day Academy’s Wildlife and Aquatic Science course, along with a leader guide to support once-a-week group instruction led by a parent or tutor. Students complete assignments and participate in outdoor activities at home or in their local environment throughout the week.
Topics include:
- Texas ecoregions and biomes
- Aquatic ecosystems, water quality, and conservation
- Terrestrial ecosystems and land management
- Wildlife biology (fish, amphibians, birds, mammals, invertebrates)
- Native Texas plants and identification skills
The course includes at least one major field excursion per semester, along with local nature walks, data collection, and journaling. Students seeking high school science credit will complete an extended independent project. Content corresponds with TEA-aligned science courses including Aquatic Science, Environmental Systems, and Wildlife, Fisheries, and Ecology Management.
Parental responsibilities include helping students prepare for field days, guiding them through weekly assignments and reading, and assisting with journaling and project pacing. This course is ideal for co-ops, small groups, or outdoor-focused homeschool families.
