Middle School American History (Notgrass) Online Course Supplement (Ages 11–14)
As Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” This course invites students to dive deeply into the unique and complex story of America — from the time before European exploration through the close of the twentieth century. Designed for middle school learners, this class blends engaging project-based learning with exposure to a rich variety of primary sources, including historic songs, poems, the Declaration of Independence, and journal entries from presidents and explorers.
Students will journey through pivotal moments, meeting Revolutionary War heroes and exploring eras from the Atomic Age onward. Alongside historical events, learners will develop a solid foundation in American geography, reviewing states and capitals to enhance their understanding of the nation’s diverse landscape.
- This course cultivates curiosity and critical thinking about the people, events, geography, and social and religious institutions that shaped the United States into the nation it is today.
