ASL 2 – American Sign Language Online Course Supplement (Grades 10–12)
This online course supplement builds on the foundational skills learned in ASL 1 and is designed to support students earning one full high school foreign language credit in American Sign Language.
Students expand their vocabulary and grammar while developing stronger expressive and receptive signing skills. The course moves beyond “social survival” skills, encouraging students to share feelings, ideas, and meaningful conversation in ASL. Deaf culture and history are woven throughout the lessons, providing important context and connection.
Each class includes vocabulary review, structured lessons using a textbook and online materials, individual and group signing practice, and occasional presentations. Assignments include translating written content, learning songs or poems in ASL, and attending a community event that engages with Deaf culture.
Daily practice is essential, and access to the internet is required to complete regular assignments and activities.
- Prerequisite: Successful completion of ASL 1 with a grade of C or higher, or instructor approval.
