Wildlife and Aquatic Science Online Course Supplement (Ages 12–17)
This comprehensive course is designed for mature students interested in hands-on, experiential learning both in the lab and the great outdoors. Focusing on the diverse ecosystems of Texas, students will study the unique characteristics of various ecoregions and aquatic environments. Key topics include water quality and conservation, terrestrial ecosystems, land management, and the biology and ecology of Texas plants, fish, amphibians, birds, mammals, and invertebrates.
Students will engage in outdoor activities and field excursions, fostering practical skills such as field note-taking, data graphing, and ecological observation. At least one major field trip per semester offers real-world experience, connecting classroom knowledge to natural habitats. Students pursuing high school credit will complete a significant project that demonstrates their understanding and application of scientific concepts.
- This course aligns with Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards, covering Aquatic Science, Environmental Systems, and Wildlife, Fisheries, and Ecology Management, providing a strong foundation for students interested in environmental science, biology, or related fields. Prerequisites include Middle School Math and Middle School English 1 to ensure readiness for course material.
