Introduction to Psychology (Ages 15–18)
Academic Psychology with a Christian Worldview
This college-preparatory course offers high school students a comprehensive introduction to psychology through the lens of Scripture. Designed for students ages 15–18, it mirrors the content of an undergraduate general psychology class but adds intentional Biblical analysis and worldview training throughout the year.
Students will study:
- The history and development of psychology
- Major schools of psychological thought (e.g., behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, etc.)
- Foundational concepts such as memory, cognition, visual processing, emotion, and behavior
- Famous psychologists and key experiments that shaped the field
- Common mental health disorders and basic diagnostic frameworks
- Ethics in psychology and Biblical responses to psychological theories
Students will compare each psychological theory with Biblical truth and examine how Christians can wisely engage with psychology. Case studies and Christian scholarship will help students discern between truth and error, while small-group discussions and experiments allow for collaborative learning.
Homework includes textbook readings, article analysis, self-assessments, and occasional experiments or video observations. Students can expect to spend 2–4 hours per week preparing for class. In-class time alternates between lecture and discussion, encouraging critical thinking and engagement.
This course also includes guidance on career paths in psychology—from entry-level human services to advanced clinical and research professions—helping students understand how they might pursue this field from a Christian foundation.
- Perfect for teens considering careers in psychology, counseling, healthcare, ministry, or simply seeking to understand people and behavior in light of God’s truth.
