High School American History – Promise & Struggle (Grades 9–12)
This year-long American History course surveys the nation’s story from pre-colonial times to the modern era. It explores the promise of America as a land of freedom, opportunity, and responsibility alongside the struggles that have shaped its history and continue today.
Students will study the heroes, villains, and everyday people who built the nation, as well as the immigrant experiences that enriched America. This course highlights magnanimous ideas, pivotal events, and the sacrifices made to protect freedoms and ideals.
Designed to deepen understanding of what it means to be American, the course asks important questions: How did we get here? What shared values and experiences shape us? What is your place in America’s story?
Christian students will appreciate how this course integrates the vital influence Christianity has had on the nation’s development, recognizing the faith’s role in making America both great and good.
- While this course stands on its own, it pairs especially well with American Literature to provide a richer educational experience.
