Intro to High School English – Summer Curriculum (Ages 13–15)

This 6-week summer course is designed to bridge the gap between middle school and high school English. It provides an excellent foundation for students who have completed One Day Academy’s Middle School English 2 and are preparing for High School English 1.
The course takes a three-pronged approach, with weekly instruction focused on writing, grammar, and vocabulary:
  • Writing: Students practice writing assignments that align with the expectations of High School English 1, reinforcing structure, clarity, and creativity.
  • Grammar: Students learn the five main sentence structures and how to punctuate them using the first half of Jensen’s Punctuation.
  • Vocabulary: Students review key prefixes, suffixes, and roots covered in Middle School English 1 and 2, helping solidify word understanding and usage.
This summer course is perfect for co-op and classroom settings where students need a refresher and a confidence boost before beginning the rigors of high school English.

  • Instructor handouts (provided with course set)
  • Jensen’s Punctuation, by Frode Jensen – student must purchase separately
  • Notebook or binder for writing and exercises
  • Access to a computer and the internet are necessary
