Middle School English 1 - For Co-Ops and Classrooms (Ages 10–12)
This homeschool English curriculum is designed for students who are ready to work at approximately a 6th grade level. The Co-Op and Classrooms version includes the student workbook used in One Day Academy’s Middle School English 1 course, along with a leader guide to support parents or tutors in leading group instruction.
As with all our Co-Op and Classroom sets, this course gives the option to be taught once a week in a small group or co-op setting, with students completing the rest of their work at home under a parent’s supervision.

Middle School English 1 - For Co-Ops and Classrooms (Ages 10–12)

- The course focuses on building strong grammar skills as a foundation for future writing success.
- Students will use Easy Grammar 6 as their primary text and learn to identify all parts of a sentence by the end of the year.
- Writing assignments begin with sentence and paragraph structure and grow into bi-weekly compositions with feedback and revision.
- Weekly vocabulary and spelling work supports word study and writing development.
Curriculum/Materials:
The purpose and goal of this class is focused grammar study, putting together all the pieces of grammar that a student has been learning through their elementary years. Students’ writing in later middle school and high school years will be strengthened by the development of strong grammatical skills. Students will also study vocabulary and grow in confidence through writing weekly.

- Student edition: Middle School English 1 Student Workbook, by Kierstyn Krajca (included in set)
- Textbook: Easy Grammar Grade 6, Wanda C. Phillips, 2007
- Access to a computer and the internet are necessary

Process
Grammar
- Easy Grammar 6 will be the main text utilized.
- A grammar lesson will be taught in class.
- Homework will help reinforce the skill taught in class.
- By the end of the year, students will be able to identify all parts of a sentence.
- At the beginning of the year, students will review basic sentence and paragraph structure.
- Students will complete bi-weekly compositions, allowing time to complete the writing process and receive feedback from instructors.
- Weekly vocabulary charts.
- Vocabulary/Spelling words that teach basic prefixes and suffixes.
- Vocabulary/Spelling words which can be integrated into students’ writing.
