Middle School English 2 (2023-24 Edition) (Ages 12–14, Grades 7–8 Level)
This updated edition of Middle School English 2 is designed to help students apply focused grammar concepts learned in previous elementary and middle school courses directly to their writing. The course aims to prepare students for the increased rigor of high school writing by laying a strong foundation in both grammar and composition.
Students will explore a variety of writing styles, including narratives, topical essays, literature responses, and poetry, giving them experience with diverse forms and purposes. Throughout the year, students apply grammar skills in practical writing assignments, reinforcing their understanding and enhancing their communication abilities.
Grammar instruction centers on the Easy Grammar Ultimate Series Grade 8 textbook. Classes include brief, targeted grammar lessons primarily focused on review, supplemented by homework designed to reinforce these concepts.
Vocabulary and spelling are taught through weekly vocabulary charts that emphasize word derivation from roots. Students learn to integrate these vocabulary words into their writing, improving both their language comprehension and expression.
Parents are responsible for grading assignments that include answer keys such as spelling, vocabulary charts, and grammar exercises. Teachers grade compositions and exams, maintain grade records, and assign final grades to provide comprehensive feedback throughout the semester.
- By the end of this course, students will have strengthened their grammar foundations, expanded their vocabulary, and gained valuable experience writing in multiple genres—key skills for success in high school English and beyond.
