Forensic Science Curriculum (Ages 16–18)
This forensic science course introduces students to the many scientific disciplines used in modern criminal investigations. Students explore more than twenty areas of forensic science and learn how scientific methods are applied to analyze evidence and investigate crimes while examining the subject from a Biblical worldview.
Designed for students interested in criminal justice, science, or investigative careers, the course examines real and theoretical case studies that demonstrate how forensic science is used to analyze evidence and solve crimes.
Topics include drugs and toxicology, fingerprints, DNA analysis, residue and pattern evidence, crime laboratories, facial recognition technology, the judicial system, and additional investigative methods. Because some topics relate to real criminal investigations, students should be mature enough to handle sensitive subject matter.
Students participate in activities related to forensic investigations, create projects for presentation, and learn through lectures, labs, and class discussions. Classes include PowerPoint instruction over the material, and students take notes during lessons. Instructors may also assign quizzes or exams to assess understanding.
Throughout the course, students develop critical thinking skills as they analyze evidence, evaluate case studies, and gain a deeper appreciation for how science is applied in criminal investigations.
- Students enrolling in this course should have completed Biology, Chemistry, and Algebra 1, as concepts from these subjects help students understand the scientific principles behind forensic investigation.
