Elementary English 4/5 (Ages 10–12, Grade 5 Level)
This course builds on foundational English skills by guiding students through grammar, writing, spelling, vocabulary, and handwriting with a focus on mastery at the 5th-grade level. Using the Easy Grammar Grade 5 Student Workbook, students learn the eight parts of speech through an engaging color-coding method that helps solidify understanding of grammar rules.
Writing instruction introduces students to the writing process and emphasizes five-paragraph compositions, poetry analysis and creation, and letter writing to develop diverse writing skills. Students also focus on spelling meaningful vocabulary words and mastering punctuation and capitalization rules.
Additional language skills are reinforced through banned words exercises and syllabication practice, helping students improve clarity and fluency in their writing. Handwriting is practiced regularly, supported by scripture dictation to integrate language learning with faith-based content.
Parents play a vital role in this course by grading spelling, vocabulary, and grammar assignments and ensuring students complete their writing tasks on schedule. Teachers grade and record all writing assignments to provide expert feedback.
- Students should plan to dedicate approximately 20 minutes per day, four days a week, to complete their coursework successfully. This steady practice supports skill retention and builds a strong foundation for future English studies.
