High School English 2 (Grades 11–12)
This advanced composition course builds on prior grammar, vocabulary, writing, and literature studies to develop upper high school students’ skills in rhetorical analysis, critical thinking, and effective communication. Students explore rhetorical appeals and techniques through essays, short fiction, speeches, and novels.
The course emphasizes argumentation, persuasion, and perspective through essay writing, literary analysis, and a research paper following Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting and citation guidelines. Students also develop advanced writing skills through peer review and revision, along with ongoing vocabulary and grammar practice.
- Parents play a key role in supporting students by establishing a daily routine for grammar and sentence writing practice, assisting with homework preparation, and grading assignments that include answer keys such as vocabulary and grammar exercises. Teachers grade all compositions, exams, and writing assignments, with recommended parental review and feedback prior to final drafts.
