Marine Biology – Grades 10–12
This upper-level science course offers students a deep dive into the fascinating world of marine life and ecosystems, all through the lens of a biblical worldview. Designed for high school students who have completed Biology 1, Marine Biology provides one full science credit and inspires students to value and protect God’s extraordinary underwater creation.
Students will explore:
- Ocean composition and regional zones
- Marine biological kingdoms and classification
- Invertebrates and vertebrates
- Oceanic zonation, coral reefs, and diverse marine ecosystems
- The interconnectedness of marine life and environmental stewardship
Hands-on lab experiences include microscope work and potential dissections or examinations of marine specimens such as clams, starfish, sharks, squid, lampreys, octopuses, sea cucumbers, sand dollars, stingrays, sea urchins, and horseshoe crabs, as determined by the instructor.
Labs include a PowerPoint lecture based on home study, note-taking in the course supplement, and instructor-led experiments. Safety protocols and proper lab techniques are emphasized. Quizzes and exams are set by the instructor; module tests are taken at home under parent supervision.
A research presentation is required. Optional field trips may be offered at the instructor’s discretion.
- Prerequisite: Biology 1
