American Literature Online Course (Grades 11–12)
This high school online literature course explores American culture and literature from the colonial era through the 20th century. The first semester focuses on poems, short stories, and novels reflecting the predominantly Christian worldview of early America. The second semester examines 20th-century fiction that highlights social changes and cultural shifts.
Students will study classic American authors’ use of literary tools such as characterization, setting, and irony to explore unique American themes. Lessons include historical context, author backgrounds, worldview analysis, literary charts, essay questions, and literary analysis essays—all taught from a Christian perspective.
- Parents are responsible for providing the course workbook and print versions of novels at the start of the year. Students should bring their workbook and current reading book to each weekly online class. Parents also assist with pacing reading assignments and helping students stay on track with worksheets and writing submissions.
