High School World History (Notgrass) (Grades 9–12)
C.S. Lewis famously said, “History is a story written by the finger of God.” This highly interactive high school history course invites students aged 14 to 18 to explore the sweeping story of humanity from Creation through the twentieth century, all through a biblical worldview.
Students will thoroughly investigate the origins and enduring influence of Western Civilization while also gaining a broad understanding of world history across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. The course places a strong emphasis on primary source materials, encouraging students to engage deeply with original documents and firsthand accounts. This approach helps students develop critical thinking skills as they analyze the people, places, and events that have shaped civilizations.
Throughout the year, students will examine the ways God’s providence has guided historical events and how His purposes have unfolded across different cultures and time periods. The curriculum is designed to foster an appreciation of history as a meaningful narrative that reveals God’s hand in the world.
- Students can expect a rigorous academic experience that includes weekly written homework assignments, regular oral presentations, and substantial projects each semester. These activities build skills in research, writing, public speaking, and historical analysis, preparing students for further academic study.
