Speech & Communication (Grades 8–12)
This practical high school course helps students aged 13 to 18 develop valuable communication skills for academic, workplace, and social success. Early in the year, special focus is given to overcoming fears of public speaking, mastering nonverbal communication, and building reasoning and listening skills.
Students will have numerous opportunities to speak in class, practicing communication for social settings, interviews, and formal presentations. The course emphasizes ethics in communication and teaches students how to effectively share a Biblical worldview in both formal and informal contexts.
Throughout the year, students will compose and deliver a variety of speeches, including informative, persuasive, motivational, visual aid, PowerPoint, special occasion, and apologetic speeches. Weekly homework and approximately two speeches per month provide ample practice to build confidence and mastery.
- The course is designed to be both enjoyable and educational, equipping students with crucial communication skills they will use throughout life.
