ASL 2 (American Sign Language 2) – Ages 15 to 18

This intermediate ASL course builds on the foundations learned in ASL 1, designed for students aged 15-18 who have completed ASL 1 with a grade of “C” or higher or have instructor approval. The focus moves beyond basic “Social Survival” skills to more advanced communication, allowing students to share information, feelings, and ideas effectively in American Sign Language.
Course Structure:
  • One full high school foreign language credit
  • Weekly 90-minute classes featuring review, direct lessons with textbooks and supplementary materials, group and individual practice, and occasional student presentations
  • Assignments include vocabulary and phrase learning, phrase writing and translation, translating selections from books, poems, or songs, and attendance at community events

  • Expand receptive and expressive ASL skills with more complex grammar and vocabulary
  • Deepen understanding of Deaf culture and history
  • Practice interpreting and translating a variety of ASL materials
