Economics and Personal Finance (Ages 14–18)
This one-year course provides high school students with a comprehensive introduction to economics and personal finance, fulfilling the recommended half credit for Economics and a half credit elective for Personal Finance.
In the first semester, students explore fundamental economic concepts such as supply and demand, types of economies, the stock market, money, inflation, business organization, and GDP. The course offers a basic overview of microeconomics and macroeconomics, blending theoretical foundations with practical applications for everyday life, all presented through a Biblical worldview.
The second semester focuses on Personal Finance, incorporating money management principles inspired by Dave Ramsey. Students learn essential skills including budgeting, investment strategies, credit management, debt handling, insurance, income taxes, and more. This semester emphasizes practical application and continues the Biblical perspective on managing money responsibly.
The curriculum combines outside reading, classroom instruction, presentations, and hands-on activities, allowing students to engage with economic and financial concepts in diverse ways. Students should expect to dedicate 2–3 hours per week outside of class for study and assignments.
- Ideal for high school students preparing for financial responsibility and informed citizenship.
